Artist Information
John H. Brown is a Nashville, TN native.
He was an art major at David Lipscomb College, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree.
Studying under renowned portrait artist, Dawn E. Whitelaw, John pursued a career in the fine art world. Working as a gallery director for contemporary art galleries in Nashville, he always worked on his own artwork. He also curated many gallery shows in the Midwest and Southeast.
First painting with oils, he worked on commissions for portraits and landscapes until he discovered acrylic paints. Working in this medium, he realized he could paint on several works at a time, since the drying time is faster.
His latest works are more abstract and colorful than when he first started painting. Colorful images and florals are his main subject matters.
John has enjoyed watching others develop their art skills. He instructed students with beginning oils and fundamentals of drawing courses.
When not painting, John enjoys traveling. He loves going to the beach and relaxing. Visiting art galleries and museums in other cities keeps him inspired.
Currently, John juries into fine art festivals, getting to travel and see other artists.
